George Albert Myers, 87, of Coffeyville passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at his home.
He was born on March 6, 1926 to Albert and Olive Viola (Ford) Myers at Fredonia. As a child George and his family moved around to various towns, he attended school at Fredonia, Independence and Coffeyville.
In June 1944 George joined the United States Marine Corps. He was a Corporal serving in the Pacific area from November 1944 to April 1945. While serving he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received in Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands.
On June 14, 1956 he married Corrine McGrath in Coffeyville. After their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville.
George worked as a carpenter before going to work for the U.S Postal Service as a Letter Carrier. He later retired from the Postal Service in 2000.
He was a member of Holy Name Catholic, Knights of Columbus Council #991, Joyce Kilmer 4th degree Knights of Columbus council # 0281, VFW Post 1022,, National Association of Letter Carriers. He enjoyed doing carpentry work, and was an excellent finish carpenter, he also enjoyed restoring cars. George could fix just about anything.
Survivors include his wife Corrine Myers of the home; three daughters, Margaret Myers of Coffeyville, Georgia Livingston and her husband Rick of Edgerton, KS, Kathy Bromley and her husband Dirk of Coffeyville; four grandsons, Rick Livingston and his wife Lisa, Jerad Livingston and his wife Michelle, Christopher Livingston, Kirk Bromley and his wife Whitney; five granddaughters, Samantha Schroeder and her husband Jeff, Krista Bromley, Kelli Bromley, Carrie Lariviere and her husband Jim; six great-grandchildren, and niece Charlene (Myers) Douglas and her husband Joe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2013 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the funeral home.
