Coffeyville - Betty Sue Myers went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday March 4, 2013 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Betty was born in El Reno, OK on November 18, 1928 to James Thomas Morgan and Rosa Belle (Whaley) Morgan. At the age of three the family moved to Coffeyville. Betty graduated from Field Kindley high School in 1948 and attended Coffeyville Community College. On July 18, 1948 she married Leo Ora Myers of Coffeyville. The coupled moved to Kansas City, MO where Leo attending Radio Broadcasting School. While in Kansas City, Betty started a 29 year career with Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator. The couple moved back to Coffeyville in 1950 to start and raise their family. During their many years in Coffeyville Leo and Betty were active members of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Betty was a devoted mother and very involved with their children's lives. She served as home room mother every year for all three children. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. After Betty's retirement from SW in 1979, she was a Salvation Army Thrift store volunteer, a Pink Lady at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center and a tour guide at Coffeyville's Brown Mansion. In 2005 Betty and Leo moved to Rose Hill, KS. During their years in Rose Hill she and Leo were both charter members of the Freedom Bible Fellowship in Benton, KS. Betty very much enjoyed reading, visiting with her telephone company friends and playing rummikub. More than anything she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Betty had a heart for people who had fallen on hard times. For many years she and Leo delivered holiday meals to those in needs. She helped pay the fees for several needy college students over the years. Betty's giving attitude was not limited to people but for homeless animals as well. Betty touched the lives of so many during her lifetime. Although we celebrate Betty's victory in Jesus, we also take comfort in the knowledge we will someday be reunited with her in Heaven. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Leo in 2012. Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Myers Parks (Steve) of Rose Hill, KS, Lynette Myers Irwin of Wichita, one son, Mark Myers (Kimberly) of Overland Park, KS, one brother James Thomas (Tommy) Morgan of Vacaville, CA, five grandchildren and three nieces.
