Coffeyville - Hazel Lorene Sanbothe, 95, died January 25, 2014 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas. She was born February 13, 1918 near Cedar Vale, Kansas to William Elbert and Elyse Luella (Enloe) Foudray. She attended grade schools in Cedar Vale and Coyville, graduating from Coyville High School in 1936. She worked as a housekeeper until she married Luie Charles Sandbothe on August 15, 1939 in Fredonia, Kansas. They were married until Luie's death in May 1991. They lived around the Fredonia and Neodesha communities, hiring on as farm and household laborers until they bought they own farm in rural Neodesha in 1952. Luie worked for Wilson County and Lorene helped on the farm. Together they raised seven children. Lorene raised large gardens and canned food besides helping with other farm work. She also enjoyed watching wrestling and baseball on television. She sewed dresses for her daughters, played Solitaire, loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She also coached girls softball teams while her daughters played. In later years she took oil painting lessons and loved to paint. She enjoyed taking bus trips around to nearby states. Lorene and Luie went dancing at country dances almost every Saturday night for twenty-five years, until Luie was too ill to go. After Luie's death, Lorene continued to clean houses as she had been doing for many years and stayed on the farm keeping cattle until she had to sell them in 2005, due to health issues.
