Coffeyville - Robert "Bobby" Armstrong, 77, of Coffeyville, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 1, 1935 to Harold and Helen (Marshall) Armstrong in Fredonia, KS. Shortly after Bobby was born they moved to Coffeyville, where he grew up and attended school; he graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1954. In 1955 he joined the U.S Army, where he served for two years. On September 13, 1956 he married Lauretta Mann in Coffeyville; they later divorced but remained close friends. Bobby worked for Sherwin-Williams paint manufactory for 20 years before he became self employed in 1978. While he was self employed he had various jobs, he worked for Holy Name Catholic School and Windsor Place Nursing Home in maintenance, he also was a real handy man. He eventually retired in 1998. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church, VFW Post #1022, American Legion Post #20, Moose Lodge. While he wasn't busy with all of his activities he enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, using his metal detector and playing his guitar. He is survived by one son; Leslie Armstrong and wife Connie of Lake Tapps, WA, two daughters; Claudia VanDyne and husband Philip of Springfield, MO, Diana Miller and husband Roy of Coffeyville, three sisters; Patty Holt of Wichita, Carolyn McGinnis of Coffeyville, Marilyn Ingle of Springfield, MO, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by one son; Robert Dale Armstrong, his parents and one brother Harold (Sonny) Armstrong. Memorial Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday January 5, 2013 at Spring Hill Cemetery, north of Coffeyville. Friends may call on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Family suggests memorials to the Central Baptist Church and the VFW Post #1022 in Coffeyville; contributions may be left at the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
