Sedan - Betty Ruth McKee, 89, of Winfield, Kansas (formerly of Sedan) passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Winfield. She was born November 23, 1923 at Virgil, Kansas to Jesse Hull and Ruby (Apple) Hull. She was raised in the Howard, Kansas area and graduated from Piedmont High School in 1941. On October 8, 1947 she married Kirby McKee. They owned and operated the Holly Cafe in Sedan for many years. Kirby preceded her in death on February 21, 1990. She lived in Sedan until 2002, and then moved to Winfield, Kansas. She was active in the Sedan Library and served on the board for many years and also volunteered at the Emmett Kelly Museum in Sedan. Survivors include two daughters; Pam Olmsted of Honolulu, Hawaii and Tina Lewis of Winfield, Kansas, 5 grandchildren-Darin Lewis,Vicky Lewis,Ken Hays, Teri Myers & Kelly McCright. There are also 9 great grand children-Lilly Jones, Braedyn Weeks, Ava Lewis, Derek Day, Shelbi Day, Damien Hays, Nathan Hays, Melissa Norton, and Casey Chandler and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Diane Cox, her parents, 2 sisters, six step brothers and two step sisters. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2012 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan with Rev. Paul Stetz of the Sedan Assembly of God officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, January 2, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. The family suggests memorials to the Sedan City Library; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 North Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
