Coffeyville - Goldena Sullivan, 94, of rural Havana, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, OK. She was born August 29, 1913 at Elk City, Kansas to John William and Bessie (Harvey) Eversole. She grew up and attended school in Elk City, graduating from Elk City High School in 1931. Following high school she attended Pittsburg State Teacher's College where she received her degree in elementary education. On May 6, 1943 she married Harold Sullivan at Harrisburg, PA. Following their marriage they lived in Harrisburg, PA for several months until returning to Elk City in August 1943, in 1948 they moved to Niotaze where they lived until moving to their farm in rural Havana in 1958. Mr. Sullivan preceded her in death on September 8, 1997. Mrs. Sullivan taught school in Elk City and later at Havana where she taught 3rd and 4th grade for many years before becoming a 3rd grade teacher and Caney where she taught for 22 years retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Niotaze United Methodist Church since 1948, and in recent years was a member of the Havana United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Marianna (Richard) Brant of rural Havana, and Patty (Loyd) Fields of Caney; one son, Kenneth (Carla) Sullivan of rural Havana; her twin sister, Orlena Whistler of Nowata, OK; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Homer Eversole and Paul Eversole; and four sisters, Alice Elmore, Ellen Smoot, Mary Linn, and Agnes Turner. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in the Tyro Christian Church with David Bycroft and Dan Carr officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Niotaze, KS. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Blanket Blessings at Tyro Christian Church or the Havana United Methodist Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
