Coffeyville - Frank V. Miorandi, 93, of Coffeyville, passed away Friday night, November 30, 2012, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. He was born July 18, 1919, at Springfield, Massachusetts to John and Tamora (Tabor) Miorandi. Frank grew up and attended school in Springfield graduating from Commerce High School. Frank was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. While in the service he was stationed at the Coffeyville Army Air Base, and later served in Burma. While stationed at Coffeyville he met Ruth Catherine Long and they were married on October 8, 1944 at Coffeyville. Following his discharge from the Army Air Corp they made their home in Coffeyville. Frank was employed at Ludiwici-Celadon for 19 years following the plants closing he began working for Page Milk Co. where he was employed for 23 years until it closed. Frank then worked at Funk Mfg. Co. (now John Deere Coffeyville Works) where he worked until retiring. His wife preceded him in death on March 4, 1999. Frank was an avid sports enthusiast and was the last living member fot the Texaco-Acme Semi-Pro Baseball Team. He coached both Pony Colt and Babe Ruth Baseball teams for many years and was instrumental in integrating youth sports in Coffeyville. He loved to golf, play tennis and run, Frank ran in many marathons in the four state area including the Tulsa Run, and also competed twice in the Boston Marathon. Survivors incude four sons, Gary Miorandi of Pittsburg, KS, John Miorandi of Great Bend, KS, Mickey Miorandi of Coffeyville, and Larry Miorandi of St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; three brothers, Norman, Mallery, and Winston; and one sister, Dorothy Surette. A Memorial Service celebrating Frank's life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, 300 West 9th St., Coffeyville, with Dr. Randall Terrill officiating. Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Coffeyville Community College Foundation for the Frank and Ruth Miorandi Memorial Scholarship Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
