Joseph Arthur Sutton, age 75, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Joe was born on January 31, 1939 in Grenola, Kansas to Harry Sutton and Inez (Wonser) Sutton. He grew up in the Grenola area and graduated from Sedan High School in 1957.
On August 30, 1957 he married Deloris Gilliam in Sedan, Kansas. They made their home in Columbus, Kansas for twenty years before coming back to Sedan in 1993. Joe worked in conservation and bridge construction most of his life. He worked for the Chautauqua County Road and Bridge Department and was supervisor before retiring in 2002. He also was a cattle rancher for many years.
Joe loved being outdoors; working with cows, horses and also his bulldozer; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of nearly fifty seven years, Deloris Sutton of the home in rural Sedan, Kansas; three daughters, Dana Burgess and husband Stephen of Rogers, Arkansas, Dorothy Reese and husband Don of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Jennifer Shilts of Columbus, Kansas; three sons, Joseph Allen Sutton and wife Patty of Columbus, Kansas, Jeffery Sutton and wife Erin of Shawnee, Kansas, and John Sutton and wife Jackie of Topeka, Kansas; four sisters; Dorothy Smith of Sedan, Kansas, Mabel Henson of Sedan, Kansas, Louise Chrisman of Augusta, Kansas and Patsy Rusteburg of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother Edgar Sutton of Rural Grenola, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by three brothers, Dale Sutton, Delbert Sutton, and Bobby Sutton; one sister, Margery Gibbs; one great-grandson Zane Reese, and his parents.
Church Services will be held Friday April 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Sedan with Reverend John Warring officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Kansas.
Family and Friends may call on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
