Howard William Swift went to heaven Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Windsor Place, Coffeyville, KS. He was born January 13, 1916, in Coffeyville at home 412 Penn Street.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles David Swift and Mary Ethel (Burrus) Swift, brother Charles Woodrow "Woody" Swift, sisters Ruth Marie and Leticia (Swift) Pendleton, and wife Margaret (Stebbins) Swift.
Howard worked at Sinclair Refinery, for a time he worked for Panther Oil and Grease Company in Fort Worth, TX as a salesman. He then founded Swift Construction Co. and later added Coffeyville Concrete Materials. Howard built over 100 homes in this area; Garden Apartments, Fire Station, Independence Public Swimming Pool and several large public school projects. He also worked on the total remodel of the Coffeyville Vo-Tech, numerous out of town school projects and the Indian housing in Atoka, OK.
He began woodworking in high school and continued through his lifetime, he was still building furniture at age 96.
He is survived by two daughters, Patty Clark of South Coffeyville, OK and Annetta Locke of Broken Arrow, OK; three grandchildren, Randy Clark of Coffeyville, Eric Locke and wife Carol of Broken Arrow, OK and Megan McCall and husband David of Broken Arrow, OK; four great-grandchildren, Makayla Clark of Coffeyville, Shonda Clark both of Coffeyville, Ian and Grace Locke of Tulsa, and a great-great granddaughter Rayleigh Clark.
Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville with Pastor Randy DePriest of the First Assembly of God Church in Coffeyville officiating.
Family and friends may sign the register book on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family has suggested memorials to The First Assembly of God Church in Coffeyville and those remembrances may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 N. Cline, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
