Coffeyville - Hazel I. Hammonds-Taylor, 84, of Lenapah, OK passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012 at her home. She was born December 29, 1927 at Mt. Vernon, MO to Roy and Bertha (Woods) Douthit. Hazel grew up and attended school in Mt. Vernon and Picher, OK. Hazel married Charles Arthur "Art" Hammonds at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in several different states before moving to Coffeyville in 1970 where they made their home until moving to Lenapah in 1972. Mr. Hammonds preceded her in death on October 2, 1976. She later married Carl Nathan Taylor at Picher, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Lenapah. Mr. Taylor preceded her in death Hazel was a member of the Pentecostal Church and attended Mid-America Revival Center in Coffeyville. She enjoyed crocheting, and quilting, and loved to fish and spend time with her family. For many years she was a nurse at Medicalodge, Windsor Place and Sunnyview Nursing Home all in Coffeyville. Survivors include one daughter, June Thomas and husband, Odell of Lenapah; two sons, Charles Arthur Hammonds, Jr. and wife Linda of Coffeyville, and Billy Gene Hammonds and wife, Danica both of Coffeyville; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, Hazel was preceded in death by two daughters, Jerri Rupert, and Janice Hammond; two sons-in law, Roy Hammond and Dale Webber; one granddaughter and her husband Cindy and Jeff Blake, and one step-son, Spencer Taylor. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Mid-America Revival Center, 505 Hollywood in Coffeyville. Burial will be in Mt. Washington Cemetery in Lenapah, OK. Friends may call on Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to Mid-America Revival Center; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
