Sedan- Harold O. Hawkins, 85, of Sedan, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.
He was born on November 3, 1926 in Cedar Vale, Kansas to Otis Hawkins and Vera (Wilkinson) Hawkins. He was born and raised in Cedar Vale and attended and graduated from Cedar Vale High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on December 2, 1946.
On February 12, 1950 he married Alice Reed in Sedan, Kansas. They made their home in Cimarron, Kansas where Harold worked as a cattle buyer and ran feedlots in Cimarron and Dodge City for over fifty five years. In June of 2004 they moved to Sedan, where they have been residents for the past eight years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sedan, American Legion and VFW in Dodge City. He enjoyed golf, K-state football, the coffee shop, and was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Hawkins of the home in Sedan, Kansas; one daughter, Janis and husband Gary of Fall River, Kansas; one son, Greg and wife Nancy Hawkins of Junction City, Kansas; four grandchildren; Chance and Christi Roberts and Denny and Reed Hawkins; three great-grandchildren, Jude Roberts, Baer Chavez, and Kaira Gabbard; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by parents, one sister Louise Hawkins, and a niece Jan Newberry.
Church Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Bever officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan. Military Honors will be performed by United States Army Honor Guard, Wichita, Kansas.
Family and friends may call on Monday, October 22, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family has suggested memorials to the First United Methodist Church and may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
