Ray E. Newman, 83, of Coffeyville passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at Windsor Place Home-N-Sight.
He was born August 21, 1930, at Minneapolis, MN to Frank E. and Alida (Monteith) Newman. Ray grew up and attended school in Minnesota.
After completing high school Ray joined the U.S. Navy.
On May 15, 1953, he married Cathy Oglesby at San Diego, CA. Following their marriage they made their home at several different Naval Bases where Ray was stationed during his Navy career as a Medical Corpsman. After retiring from the Navy he attended Eastern Oklahoma State College at Wilburton, OK. In 1979 they moved to Coffeyville when Ray accepted a position with Medicalodge, Inc.
Ray was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coffeyville, served as Chairman of the Deacons at the Church and was a former Music Director. He was also an Ordained Minister with the American Baptist Association serving as Interim Pastor and several different churches. Ray served on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and was a member of the Disabled American Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy of the home; one daughter, Cheryl Newman of Tulsa, OK; one son, Randall Newman of Evanston, IL; his twin brother, Robert "Bob" Newman and wife Evelyn, and brother, George Newman all of Sierra Vista, AZ.
A Memorial Service celebrating Ray's life will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. J. Dean McNamara officiating. Following Ray's wishes cremation has taken place.
Friends may sign the register book on Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church, or Salvation Army; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
