Arthur D. Holmburg, 88 of Caney, passed away Tuesday September 11, 2012 at the Caney Nursing Center in Caney.
He was born on August 3, 1924 to Arvid and Dora (Severns) Holmburg in Washington County, OK. He grew up in the Washington and Osage County area, and attended school at Owen and Caney.
Arthur joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at various places; he was a Master Tech Sergeant.
He worked at John Deere for 30 years, where he was a mechanic working on various types of farm equipment.
On March 28, 1992 he married Betty L. Simpson in Caney. Following their marriage they made their home in Caney.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Caney, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Holmburg of the home; three step-sons, Gary Simpson of Caney, Donald Simpson of Peru and Jack Applegate of Salem, IL; two step-daughters, Linda Williamson of Owasso, OK and Patricia Drum of Caney; one brother, Gerald "Bud" Holmburg of Vera, OK; one sister, Marietta Reeves of Wann, OK, eleven step grandchildren and fifteen step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Christine Applegate, one step-son, one step-daughter, one step-grandson, one sister and one brother.
A Memorial Service celebrating Art's life will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 22, 2012 at the Assembly of God Church in Caney, with Rev. Mike Morris officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial to the Assembly of God missionary work; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
