Geneva Blanche Garrett, age 79, of Elgin, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at her residence in Elgin.
She was born April 12, 1933 in Bell City, Missouri to Tom Childs and Mary (Harris) Childs. She grew up and attended schools on Missouri.
She worked many years in California for Con Agra Foods as a meat packager.
On July 25, 1994 she married Edward Garrett in Mountain Home, Arkansas. They have made their home in Elgin, Kansas for the last several years.
She was a member of the New Life Baptist Church in Chautauqua, Kansas. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
She is survived by her husband Edward Garrett of the home in Elgin, Kansas; three sons, Tom Lockhart and wife Margaret of Missouri, Terry Lockhart of Cedar Vale, Kansas, and Mark Lockhart of Elgin, Kansas; one daughter, Donna Murry of Success, Arkansas; two grandchildren she raised, Stephanie Lockhart of Pittsburg, Kansas and Carrie Lockhart of Topeka, Kansas; five step-daughters, Patricia Herrington and husband Jerry of Wichita, Kansas, Charlotte Dyer and husband Tom of Alabama, Judy Drew and husband John of Wichita, Kansas, Carol Huddleston and husband Randy of Missouri, and Terry Willis and husband Stan; three step-sons, Christopher Garrett of Wichita, Kansas, Mike Garrett and wife Tina of Wichita, Kansas, and Edward Garrett II of Missouri; three sisters, Francis Holland of Arkansas, Shirley Butler and husband Hershel of Missouri, and Mary Aker and husband Steve of Missouri; one brother, Tom Childs of Alabama; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters and her parents.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Elgin Cemetery with Pastor Larrie Adams of the New Life Baptist Church, Chautauqua, Kansas officiating.
Family and friends may call on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
