Coffeyville - Maxine Wadkins, 92, of Coffeyville passed away this morning, August 31, 2012 at Windsor Place. She was born March 16, 1920, south of Altamont, KS to Christopher and Ethel Wilma (Raymond) Giager. Maxine received her elementary education at rural schools in Labette and Montgomery Counties, and graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville. On April 22, 1939 she married Dallas Wadkins at Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in the Coffeyville area where they raised their family. Maxine worked at Sears, Thomas and Associates, George's Cafeteria, and the food service center at U.S.D. 445. Dallas and Maxine were foster parents for many years. Dallas preceded her in death in November 1988. Maxine was a member of the First Baptist Church, and the Althea Sunday School Class. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, and spending time with her family. Survivors include two daughters, Ramona Montague and husband Bob of rural South Coffeyville, OK, and Patty Wadkins of Coffeyville; two sons, Steve Wadkins and wife Julia of Parsons, and Darin Wadkins and wife Tina of Peculiar, MO; one brother, Kenneth Giager of Fairway, OK; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Wendell Giager. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Restlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Gerald Morris officiating. Friends may call on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Assoc., American Cancer Society, or Alzheimer's Assoc.; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
