William Alvin Leroy Kincaid, lifelong resident of Caney, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at the Waukesha Springs Nursing Center in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
Leroy as he was known by friends and family, was born April 27, 1923 southwest of Caney on the Kincaid farm. He was the son of George Leroy and Anna D. (Ella) Kincaid. On December 19th, 1942 Leroy married Anna Mae Perdue, also of Caney at the Perdue family home near Caney.
They both graduated from Caney High School in 1941. Leroy attended the Jenkins School of Commerce and started working for Reda Pump in Bartlesville, OK on April 15, 1942 as a switchboard operator. Leroy served in the Army in the 103 AAA (AW) Battalion, which was attached to the First Infantry Division of the First Army during World War II in the European Theatre of Operation. Upon returning from military service, he was quickly promoted to Assistant Treasurer of Reda Pump for 12 years. He retired from Reda Pump on December 15, 1985 after 43 years and 9 months of employment.
Leroy was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #138 serving as Commander was well as a lifetime member of VFW Post #9678. Other organizations he was involved with were; Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Caney and a member of the Eastern Star in Coffeyville; a 60 year member of Caney Masonic Lodge #324 AF & AM; a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonary 32nd Degreewith Valley of Fort Scott serving as a Noble of the Mystic Shrine at the Mirza Temple in Pittsburg, KS; was a Rainbow Dad for 15 years and a member of the Grand Cross of Colors; Caney Jaycess, and was Treasurer of the Caney United Methodist Church for 10 years as well as being a lifetime member. He served on the Caney City Council for 6 years and was one of the main advocates for building of the Caney Public Swimming Pool. He also coached Little League Baseball for eight years and the girl's softball team for ten years. Leroy was instrumental in helping area children seek medical assistance fro Shiner's Crippled Children's Hospital.
Leroy was an accomplished musician specializing in country western music, being the lead fiddle player in his own band, Leroy Kinkaid and the Osage Valley Boys.
As a couple, Anna Mae and Leroy have farmed land and raised cattle for the majority of their married lives, sharing the virtues of hard work and responsibility with their children. They also served in various roles in socounts, and other local activities involving not only their own children, but also many other children in the Caney area. Anna Mae and Leroy were known for throughout the area to be seen dancing not only locally, but were also on national television with their dance club.
Leroy was the proud father of one son, Douglas Kincaid and wife Sue of Mukwonago, Wisconsin; three daughters, Diana Sheldon and husband Tom and children, Jasmine and Tamara of Louisville, Colorado; Debra Funk and husband Ray and children; Rachel, Rebecca, and Andrew of State College, Pennsylvania; and Donna Kincaid Boles and children, Hannah, Blake, Lydia and Anna Leigh of Myersville, Maryland; He also leaves two sisters-in-law, Helen Dixon of Independence, and Zetta Tannahil and brother-in-law Clarence of Lee Summit, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leroy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Mae, his parents, George and Anna Kincaid, and two brothers-in-law, Alfred Dixon and Glenn Perdue.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, in the Caney United Methodist Church with Rev. Angela DeFisher officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery with Masonic Rites conducted by the Caney Masonic Lodge, and military honors conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Fort Riley, KS.
