Dennis Leroy Hopkins, 63, of Sedan, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
He was born on November 30, 1948 in rural Hale, Kansas to Doyle A. Hopkins and Minnie (Morgan) Hopkins. He grew up in rural Chautauqua County and graduated from Sedan High School in Sedan, Kansas. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army on June 26, 1968 where he served for two years until he was honorably discharged.
He worked at the Jones Feed Store, Geesaman Motors, and also helped his brother Phillip shoe horses.
He attended the Assembly of God Church in Sedan. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He also enjoyed riding horses, racing horses in his younger years, shooting guns, hunting, and visiting with friends.
He is survived by three brothers; Phillip Hopkins of Sedan, Kansas, Dale Hopkins of Peru, Kansas, and George Hopkins of Sedan, Kansas; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister Donna Cummings and his parents.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas with Reverend John Warring of the First Christian Church in Sedan officiating.
Family and Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, August 20, 2012 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The Family has suggested memorials to the National Rifle Association and those memorials may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
