Sedan - Leo Franklin Transue, 85, of Sedan, Kansas (formerly of Edna, Kansas) passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was born March 19, 1927 to Charley O. Transue and Louesea (Frantz) Transue in Nowata County, Oklahoma. He was raised in the Nowata area attending Chapel Springs Elementary until the eighth grade. After working through his teenage years, he enlisted in the United States Army serving from January 1951 to January 1953 until he was honorably discharged. On September 18, 1951 he married Nancy Brown in Joplin, Missouri. They made their home in the Edna area for most of their life. He worked for Acme Foundry for thirty two years also Funk Manufacturing, Morrow Foundry and for Stine feed mill in Edna until he retired in 1985. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and six sisters. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Nancy Transue of the home; three daughters; Jonell Ala and husband Allen of Wellington, Kansas, Sandy Webb of Valeda, Kansas, and Leota Casement and husband David of Sedan, Kansas; one sister, Ruth Ames of Valeda, Kansas; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren Graveside services will be held Monday, July 16, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the North Edna Cemetery in Edna, Kansas with Reverend John Warring of the First Christian Church of Sedan officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the United States Army Honor Guard of Wichita, Kansas. Family and friends may call on Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family has suggested memorials to the Leib 4-H Club in Labette County or the Sedan Willing Workers 4-H Club and can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361 or 306 N. Cline, Coffeyville, Kansas 67337.
