Sedan - Archie Gray Williams Jr., 76, of Elgin, Kansas passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
He was born July 10, 1935 to Archie Gray Williams Sr. and Gladys Marie Moon in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. He grew up in the Bowring Oklahoma area before graduating from Bowring High School. After high school he attended Oklahoma University for a short time.
He worked in the oil field his whole life and his jobs took him too many places across the United States. In 1958 he married Carol Young in Sedan, Kansas. To this union three children were born. They were later divorced. In 1990, he married Maxine Z. (Brim) they lived in Elgin for a number of years until she passed away on February 20, 2004.
He was an avid musician, playing the guitar, banjo, and mandolin; he loved to hunt, fish, and was an avid reader.
He is survived by two daughters; Angela Benefiel of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Deena Williams of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; one son, Jerry Williams of Whipporwill, Oklahoma; one step-daughter, Nanette Foulkes-Windsor of Copan, Oklahoma; four brothers, Raymond Williams, John Williams, Roy Williams, and Jim Williams; two sisters, Retha Moore and Judy Ann Windsor; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters, his parents, and his second wife Maxine Williams.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Chautauqua Baptist Church in Chautauqua, Kansas with Pastor Kevin Fogerty officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Cremation has taken place and the family has scheduled no visitation at this time.
