William F. "Bill" Brooker, 85, of Coffeyville passed away Wednesday May 30,2012 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born on October 12, 1926 to A.J. and Mattie (Fick) Brooker at Fort Scott, Kansas. Bill grew up and attended school in Fort Scott. During his senior year of High School he was drafted into the United States Army on January 24, 1945 to serve in World War II. After receiving his discharge from the Army on November 15, 1946, he continued his education at Coffeyville Community College.
On June 17, 1955 he married Carol Jamison at Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville, where Bill owned and operated Brooker Motor Co. for many years.
Bill was a longtime active member of the First Christian Church, V.F.W and American Legion. He enjoyed traveling and working on cars.
Survivors include his wife Carol Brooker of the home, one daughter; Carol Lee Hallum of Reed Springs, MO, one brother Richard Brooker of Fort Scott, two granddaughters, Mary Jeanetta Oetting, and Megin Hurst; and three great-grandchildren, Kris Oetting, Jonathan Oetting, and Becky Hallum.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Clyde Brooker, Earl Brooker, George Brooker, Pat Brooker, and Ervin Brooker; and six sisters, Ruth Harrison, Louise Rasmussen, Ellen Thiebaud, Marilyn Minor, and Oral Lyons.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Coffeyville with Pastor Gordon Willhite and Pastor Clay Bramble officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20.
Friends may call on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
