Linda or Ms. Abel, as I knew her was far and away my favorite teacher. She was my yearbook advisor at Heights and I can't tell you how many hours we all spent in her classroom cutting up, and watching plays and musicals. She opened our eyes to worlds we might never have known. She treated us like people and not like kids and made high school fun. It wouldn't have been the same without her. I am so sad to hear of her illness and her passing, but I am glad her suffering is through.

I was a student in Linda's speech and debate classes (1983 - 1985). She taught me so much, but more than that, she inspired me to believe in myself. Through my participation in debate, I developed a love of rhetoric and debate and a self-confidence that served me well in student government, in law school and continues to serve me well in life. Without Linda, I can't say that I'd be where I am today. In addition to being a great teacher, she was so full of joy and such a pleasure to be around. I will never forget my time with her, and - though we lost touch - I count her as a friend and always will. Right now, I'm thinking about her Chevy Chevette, her easy wit, her profound understanding of and forgiveness for teenagers and their love of chaos I'm think of all these things and smiling.
My family and I send our hearts out to Linda's family and friends. We were saddened by the news and can only imagine the heavy loss you all feel. I hope your memories of her will bring you comfort during this difficult time.

Patmy kindergarten buddy , keep your spirits up and you know your friends will help you too. Linda was such a trooper and you were right there each and every step of the way, only because she was your top nurse a few years earlier. You and Linda had good times and you will be able to recall them when the dust settles. Remember that you can search the world for happiness, but you won't find it. Happiness is the way you travel, not a destination. ..

I will never forget Linda. I was her student in debate, forensics, and yearbook, but she was far more than a teacher to me. I couldn't possibly explain all that she contributed to me, but I can say that she created an environment that I found to be an oasis from all that was socially excruciating in high school. My most sincere condolences to her loved ones.
