James H. "Juggy" Gates, 63 of Coffeyville, passed away Saturday May 5, 2012 at his home.
He was born on May 19, 1948 to Henry John and Erma Marie (Cobb) Gates at Gum Springs, Oklahoma. He grew up in the Lake Tenkiller area, attending schools in Gore, Oklahoma where he graduated from Gore High Schools.
After graduation he attended Northeastern University of Tahlequah where he earned a degree in Secondary Education. He taught math in public schools in Oklahoma.
In 1973 James began working with the Union Pacific as a Conductor, until becoming an Engineer. James worked with the Union Pacific close to 39 years.
On January 2, 1987 he married Denise Cuthrell in Miami, OK. After their marriage they made their home in Van Buren, AR for a short time before moving to Coffeyville in 1988.
James was a attended the Church of the Nazarene, he was a member of the United Transportation Union, and Brotherhood of Locomotive of Engineers. He enjoyed shooting guns, yard work and wood working.
He is survived by his wife Denise Gates of the home, six sons; James R. Ashley of Tulsa, Ok, Khrystopher Gates of Hopi, AZ, John Harold Gates of Coffeyville, Michel Victor Gates of Lawrence, David G. Armstrong Jr. of Coffeyville and Chad G. Armstrong of Coffeyville, one daughter; Michelle E. Armstrong of Coffeyville, his mother; Erma Marie Redfearn of Gore, OK, two sisters; Carolyn and Jerry Mannon of Gore, OK and Gail and Albert Harris of Hulbert, OK; one grandchild Daylin Armstrong, his brother-in-law, Darwin Cuthrell of Coffeyville; and niece Sandra Cuthrell of Coffeyville.
He is preceded in death by his dad and one sister Marilyn Perry.
A Memorial Service Celebrating Juggy's life will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Coffeyville with Rev. David Warren and Rev. Ford Hall officiating.
Friends may call on Friday May 11, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
