Donnie L. Gillespie, 76, of Coffeyville passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at his home.
He was born on July 6, 1937, at Coffeyville at Hooley "Short" and Pearl (Transue) Gillespie. Donnie was a lifelong Coffeyville area resident and graduated from Lenapah High School in Lenapah, OK.
In 1974 he married Alice Males at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Donnie was employed at John Deere Coffeyville Works (formerly Funk Mfg. Co.) for over 30 years retiring in 1997 as a Quality Control Supervisor. Alice preceded him in death on May 7, 2009.
Donnie was a member Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M. He loved fishing, hunting, and going to casino's, but most of all loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Alyson Long and husband Dion of Coffeyville; one sister, Jacque Johnston of Bartlesville, OK; five grandchildren and three great=grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Short Gillespie; his mother, Pearl McClain; his wife Alice; one daughter, Becky; and one son Ricky.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Pumpkin Creek Cemetery east of Coffeyville with Chaplain Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating.
Friends may call on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to the Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
