Sedan - Alleein (Miller) Walker, 92, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
She was born April 15, 1919, on a farm northeast of Cedar Vale in rural Chautauqua County to Grover N. and Hallie (Coffey) Miller. She graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1937.
On July 22, 1937 she married William K. Walker in Independence, Kansas. They lived in Lawrence, Kansas and Kansas City, Kansas from 1937 until 1945, when her husband graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School. She audited many classes with him at KU. They then moved to Texas and then to San Francisco, California before returning to Cedar Vale in 1948, where they established their home and Dr. Walker's medical practice . In 1955 they moved to Sedan and relocated his medical practice. Alleein was preceded in death by her husband William K. Walker, on November 27, 2005. She then moved to Marion, Illinois in September 2006 to be closer to her daughter and family until moving back to her roots in September of 2010. While in Cedar Vale she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was a member of the Epiphany Episcopal Church, DC Chapter of International P.E.O. Sisterhood, Kansas Farm Bureau, and past officer of Kansas Chapter of American Medical Association Women's Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, especially tea roses, homemaking, knitting, bridge, golf, and bowling. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society State and National level, Pleasant Valley Manor for 20 years, Burden's Candy Factory, Church Choir, and also the American Heart Association fund raisers. Her family and friends were the center of her life. After her family was raised she attended a local community college, she also enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Walker M.D., one son, Grover William Walker, two infant sisters, one brother Raymond Ramsey, and one sister, Reva Miller Smiley, and her parents.
She is survived by her two daughters; Regena Jannet (Walker) Bly of Creal Springs, Illinois and Aleta Gay (Walker) Esau of Spokane, Washington; one daughter-in-law, Janet (Kipfer) Walker of Armada, Michigan; one sister, Delois (Miller) Brant of Scottsdale, Arizona; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial service will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Sedan with Father Marcus Cunningham officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Episcopal Church Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers the family has suggested memorials to the Epiphany Episcopal Church and those remembrances can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
