Coffeyville - Robert Earl Brown, 72, of rural Liberty passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Cherryvale, KS. He was born April 26, 1939 at Peru, KS to Birl and Helen (Gwin) Brown. Robert grew up in Chautauqua County attending school in Sedan, graduating from Sedan High School in 1957. After completing high school he attend graduated from Coffeyville Community College. On December 28, 1958 he married Sandra Mills at Sedan, together they had two daughters. They were later divorced. In July 1985 he married Susan (Farr) Huneycutt. Following their marriage they made their home on their farm near Liberty, while Robert taught and Susan served several area Methodist Church's as their minister. In June 1959 he joined the U.S. Air Force serving until being honorably discharged in June 1963. After his discharge he began school at Pittsburg State University where he received his Bachelor Degree and later his Master's Degree. In 1965 he moved to Coffeyville where he taught Math at Roosevelt Middle School for 37 years. Following his retirement he continued to teach as a substitute teacher in Aurora, MO, and in Montgomery and Labette County schools, he also taught at Drury College in Springfield, MO, and at Coffeyville Community College. Robert was a member of the First Christian Church, serving as a Elder and Sunday School Teacher for many years, was a member of the Choir and ran the sound system. He was a member of the Amateur Ham Radio Club in Independence and Coffeyville, over the years Robert taught many people how to operate Ham Radio's, and also provided service and repairs to 2-way radio's and electronic equipment for the school district, Montgomery County Rural Fire Department and other organizations. Robert was also an active member of Disciples Amateur Radio Fellowship/United Church Amateur Network (DARF/U-CAN) and KNEA. He enjoyed working with electronics, fishing, camping, traveling, going to Roaring River and spending time with his family. Robert loved helping Susan in her ministry, and singing in the acapella trio Lakeside Echo. Survivors include his wife, Susan of the home; daughter, Kristi Sanchez and husband David of Lee's Summit, MO, daughter, Vicki Peyton and husband Tony of Gardner, son Bent Huneycutt of Independence, daughter, Dianne Montgomery and husband Chad of Springfield, MO, son, Kenneth Huneycutt and wife Cyndee of Wichita; his mother and step-father, Helen and Bill Kinnamon of Independence; sister, Doris Blanche and husband Jerry of Wisconsin; bother, Gale Brown and wife Peggy of Wichita; and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, and one grandson, Zachary David Sanchez. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Cherryvale United Methodist Church in Cherryvale with Rev's. Dean and Mary Alice Knewtson, Fred Abshere, and Janet Maxwell officiating. Following Robert's wishes following the service cremation will take place. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Cherryvale United Methodist Church or DARF/U-CAN; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
