Coffeyville -
Thelma Mae McCormick was born in Carona, Kansas on December 15, 1919 to Bernard T. McCormick and Flossie Edith Williams McCormick. When she was nine, Thelma and the family moved to Coffeyville. She was the fourth of ten children. She has been preceded in death by all but two of her siblings, Alberta Louise Stills Cronister of Coffeyville and Joseph McCormick of Oklahoma.
Thelma married George Hobbs in 1937. From this union three daughters were born, Shirley Jean Madden, Patricia Ann Buchanan Moore and Betty Oakley. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband George in 1997 and her daughter Patricia in 2006. Thelma has 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
Thelma enjoyed working in retail sales. She also enjoyed working with antiques, going to auctions and she and George enjoyed dancing together. After the Coffeyville flood in 2007 she moved to Albany, MO to be near her daughter, Betty. The last few years she enjoyed her new home in Albany, puttering in the yard and taking care of her cat "Kitty". She was able to remain on her own until she fell and broke a hip in 2010. At Colonial Manor, Thelma enjoyed playing bingo and being involved in the Red Hat Society. She was voted Valentine Queen in 2011 and proudly did a little dance to western music after receiving her crown. Thelma lived a long and independent life going to her eternal home at age 92.
Private Family Graveside Services were held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
