Obituary of Samuel Goode

Coffeyville - Samuel Goode, 89, of Coffeyville passed away Saturday March 17, 2012 at Branson MO. He was born September 8, 1922 in Chautauqua County, KS to William and Bessie (Smith) Goode. Sam grew up in Chautauqua County where he attended school, graduating from Sedan High School in 1941. Following high school he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp serving during World War II. After being discharged from the Air Corp he went back to school continuing his education in Kansas City. In June 1946 he married Geneva Blanchard at Sedan. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville, where Sam worked for the Kansas State Highway Department retiring after 37 years of service. After retiring he was a partner in Dewey, McGraw, Goode Construction. Genevea preceded him in death in December 1984. He later married Wanda Bean, she preceded him in death in 2001. Sam attended Tyro Christian Church, and was a member of Keystone Masonic Lodge, #102 A.F. & A.M., Mirza Temple in Pittsburg, American Legion Post #20, V.F.W. Post #1022, a life member of the Montgomery County Fair Board serving as president in 1973. Survivors include one son, David Goode of Branson, MO; three granddaughters, Libby Grasmick, Stephanie Mills Avery, Hayley Winter; one grandson, Mark Goode; and two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, both of his wives, one son Jack D. Goode, one daughter Susie Avery, five brothers and two sisters. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Tyro Christian Church in Tyro, with David Bycroft officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville. Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
