Sedan - Virginia Williamson, age 91, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
She was born December 30, 1920 in the Cloverdale community, Chautauqua County, to Roy and Lydia (Urban) Roach. She attended rural grade school near Cloverdale and graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1938. She attended Pittsburg Teacher's College earning her teachers certificate. She taught in several rural schools in Chautauqua County in the early 1940's.
On February 26, 1941 she was united in marriage to Dick Williamson in Dewey, Oklahoma. They farmed and ranched in Chautauqua County for many years. She also worked at Sedan Times Star and Caney Valley Electric in Sedan until she retired in 1986. After her retirement the couple enjoyed traveling.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sedan, Honey Bees, and Mission Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Richard Ray Williamson of Emporia, Kansas; one daughter, Judy Kay Curry of Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Maxine Sledge of Derby, Kansas; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and her companion George Clint Utterback.
Church services will be held Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Reverend Gene DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family has suggested memorials in lieu of flowers to the First Baptist Church of Sedan and those remembrances may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
