Obituary of Barbara Jean Lewis

Sedan - Barbara Jean Lewis, age 83, of Caney, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence. She was born July 31, 1928 in Sedan, Kansas to Charles Louis Henson and E. Marie (Hurt) Henson. She grew up in Sedan and later graduated from Sedan High School. On July 16, 1948 she married William E. Lewis in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She worked as a cook for many years and also a clerk at a gift shop. She lived in Dixon, Missouri for many years until returning to Caney, Kansas in 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 10, 2011. She enjoyed bowling in her younger days and had been doing embroidery work. Survivors include one son, Charles E. Lewis of Camdenton, Missouri; two daughters, Marilyn M. Wade of Henryetta, Oklahoma and Billie L. Sanders of Caney, Kansas; one brother, Louis Henson of Sedan, Kansas and one sister, Viola Ellis of Ada, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister. A Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan with Tim Black of the Caney Orthodox Presbyterian Church officiating. The casket is closed and the friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
