Sedan - Eugene H. "Shotgun" Walker, age 83, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at his home in Sedan. He was born April 15, 1928 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Fred H. and Josie Mae (DeBoard) Walker. He grew up in Sedan attending Maggie Kilmer grade school and later on Sedan High School. After high school he worked at Ackarman's Hardware store in Sedan. In January of 1951 he enlisted in the United States Army serving his country until he was honorably discharged in 1952. On October 5, 1953 he married Lois Jean "Jeannie" Ashley in Independence, Kansas. They made their home in Sedan all of their married life as Shotgun worked at Ackarman's Hardware Store for over forty years until his retirement. He was a member and past commander of the Sedan VFW Post 6373, Sedan American Legion, Kansas Barbwire Collectors Association, was inducted into the Barbwire Hall of Fame in January of 2000, was on several boards in several states on barbwire associations, he taught hunter safety course for over thirty years, was a member of the 40 and 8 association, also enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting. He also loved all sports and especially shooting the shotgun at the Sedan High School football games for many years. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Walker of the home in Sedan, two daughters, Julie Bays and husband Dale of Peru, Kansas and Sam Carpenter and husband Scott of Sedan, Kansas; one son, Bill and wife Linda Walker of Coffeyville, Kansas; four sisters, Dorothy Kerr of Sedan, Kansas, Jeanette Tomlin of Anthony, Kansas, Reva Ullum of Sedan, Kansas, and Linda Thompson of Wichita, Kansas; three brothers, Leo Walker of Peru, Kansas, Jerry Walker of Cedar Vale, Kansas, and Carl Walker Sr. of Sedan, Kansas; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Family and friends may call on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. Services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Pastor John Warring and Reverend Gene DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Crum Cemetery northeast of Sedan, Kansas. The family has suggested a memorial to the Chautauqua County Historical and Genealogical Society or the Emmett Kelly Museum and those remembrances can be sent to the David W.
