Stanley Vaughn Kendrex, 56, of Independence formerly of Coffeyville, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at his home in Independence.
He was born January 10, 1955 at St. Louis, MO to Rev. Leon and Barbara Louis Kendrex, Sr. Stanley grew up in Decatur, IL, where he graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1973.
He later moved to Coffeyville, KS where he had two beautiful children with Emma West.
In October 2003 he married Marcella Carter of Independence, they were later separated.
Stanley worked for Acme Foundry and Windsor Place until retiring due to ill health.
He enjoyed grilling, fishing, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Survivors include two daughters, Natisha West of Springfield, MO and Angela West of Carl Junction, MO; two step-children, Edward Carter, Jr. and Alexandra Carter; five brothers, Leon Kendrex, Jr. of El Dorado, KS, Anthony (Delphine) Kendrex of Decatur, IL, Quinton (Rosslyn) Kendrex of Bartlesville, OK, Tracy (Niia) Kendrex of Independence; and Neal Vernon of Coffeyville; three sisters, Retha Clark of Topeka, KS, Pamela Thames (Preston Edwards) of Independence, and Bridgett Russell of Independence; honorary sister, Shelia Kendrex of Independence; three grandchildren, Cortlan, Cortney, and Seth; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one nephew, Jahari Peterson, son of Bridgett Russell and Herman Peterson.
A memorial service celebrating Stanley's life will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2011 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 301 N. 24th St. in Independence. Cremation has taken place.
