Sedan - Our mother in law, grandma, great grandma, and great great grandma went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2011.
Wilma J. Ward, 85, of Chanute, Kansas passed away at the Arma Care Center in Arma, Kansas. She had been a resident of Guest Home Estates III in Chanute, Kansas. She was a former resident of Chautauqua County.
She was born on May 14, 1926 in Caney, Kansas to Dennis and Ruth (DeWitt) Wilson.
She was united in marriage to Charles (Bud) A. Ward on October 31, 1941 in Caney, Kansas. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before his death on May 25, 1994. She is preceded in death by her parents Dennis and Ruth Wilson, her son Charles D. Ward on August 6, 2003, great granddaughter Crystal Rose Hinkle, Sisters: Margie Hatch, Gilda Smith, Brother Clifford Wilson, and companion Johny Surrett.
She loved going to the lakes to camp, fish and boat. Family reunion was a highlight each summer. Summers also brought lots of canning from the garden, winters brought crocheting for the family and getting to know and have fun with her grand, great, and great great grandchildren. She worked for Beechcraft in Wichita, Kansas for 25 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years holding the offices of chair of District Aide, Worthy Matron and all of the star points and secretary.
She is survived by a daughter in law, Jackie Ward; Fiancee` Horace Fincher of Arma, Kansas Granddaughters: Shelly and Greg Eichorn, Arma Kansas, Cindy Schroeder, Richwood Texas; Angie and Wayne Carr Richwood, Texas; Mick and Miranda Hinkle of Wichita, Kansas; eight great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of man y cousins and friends.
Graveside services will be held Friday, December 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Riley/Monett Cemetery east of Sedan, Kansas with Pastor John Warring of the First Christian Church of Sedan officiating.
Family and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan with the family receiving friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
The family has suggested memorials to the Angel Care Home Health of Neodesha or Hospice Care of Kansas. Those remembrances can be sent to the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
