Kellie J. Carter, age 43, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan, Kansas.
She was born March 16, 1964 in Wichita, Kansas to Elmo and Connie (Harris) McClurg. She attended school at Wichita West High School in Wichita, Kansas before getting her GED. She later received her Associates Degree from Colby Community College. She moved to Sedan from Wichita, Kansas in 1980. She married Calvin Carter on December 27, 1980 at the Lone Cherry Baptist Church in rural Havana, Kansas. She worked as a Physical Therapist Assistant at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas for seven years. She also worked at the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home in Sedan for five years.
She helped with the Boy Scouts of America in Sedan. She enjoyed bowling, going to the lake, Nascar, making cakes and doing volunteer work in Independence; She especially loved being a mother and grandmother and she never missed any of her kids ballgames.
She is survived by her husband Calvin Carter of the home in Sedan, Kansas; two sons, Lance and his wife Crystal Carter and Chad and his wife Lindsey Carter all of Sedan, Kansas; her mother and father, Elmo and Connie McClurg of Sedan, Kansas; one brother, Buck McClurg of Maize, Kansas; two sisters, Theresa Gorby of Ottawa, Kansas and Shelly Meek of Ark City, Kansas and three grandchildren, Madison Carter, Ava Carter, and Oakley Carter.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan, Kansas with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Riley Cemetery east of Sedan, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the Sedan High School Athletics or the Sedan High School FFA and those remembrances can be left with David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
