Obituary of Frank Allen Miller

Sedan - Frank Allen Miller, age 81, of Sedan, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011 at his home in Sedan. He was born March 18, 1930 in Grafton, Kansas to C. Guy and Beatrice D. (Pumpelly) Miller. He grew up and attended school in the Grafton area until graduating from Sedan High School in 1948. After high school he received his Associate's Degree from Coffeyville Community College and later received his Bachelor's and Master' s Degree in Teaching from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. On June 29, 1948 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country as a radioman until he was honorably discharged on June 25, 1952. On August 17, 1957 he married Vera Mae Lynn in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. He was an Educator, Principal, and Superintendant at Wichita, Coffeyville, Cedar Vale, Wellington, Sedan, Peru, and Udall. He retired from the school system in 1981. He was a member of the St. Roberts Catholic Church in Sedan, Sedan VFW Post #6373, Sedan American Legion, and Phi Beta Kappa. He also enjoyed his grandkids, hunting, baseball, and his cattle. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three grandsons, Joshua James McCann, Justin Keith McCann, and Earl Joseph Miller. He is survived by his wife of the home, Vera Mae Miller, four sons; Guy and wife Becki Miller of Geuda Springs, Kansas, Bill and wife Krista Miller of Mulvane, Kansas, John and wife Sherri Miller of Sedan, Kansas, and Jim and wife Sarah Miller of Sedan, Kansas; one daughter, Mary and husband Roger Reeves of Parsons, Kansas; and a close family friend, Justin Crawford of Winfield, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Roberts Catholic Church in Sedan, Kansas with Father Sixtus Myint officiating. Inurnment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011. A Rosary Vigil service will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.at the St. Roberts Catholic Church in Sedan. The family has suggested memorials to the Chautauqua County Genealogical and Historical Society. Those remembrances can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N.
