James Dee "J.D." Foster, 86, of Coffeyville, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born September 1, 1927 at Liberty, KS to Harold B. and Della M. (Barr) Foster. J.D. grew up and attended school in Liberty and Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1945. He also attended Coffeyville Community College and Emporia State University.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, as a teletype operator 3rd TMRS RR railroad battalion in Taejon and Tague, South Korea.
After returning from the service he married Dorothy J. Winston in November 1953. They were married for 18 years and then divorced.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Coffeyville.
Over the years J.D. held a variety of sales jobs, ran a gas station at 8th and Buckeye in Coffeyville, his last job was driving a van for Renzenberger, Inc.
Survivors include five children, Mary Wulf, Diane Thibualt, John Foster, Sara Akeman, and Mark Foster; and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Gregory Foster.
Following J.D.'s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Church of Christ in Coffeyville. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Liberty Cemetery at Liberty, KS.
