Obituary of Stephen L. Smith

Coffeyville - Stephen Lamarr Smith, 68, of Coffeyville, passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 at his home. He was born May 8, 1943 at Coffeyville to Ira Lee and Jessye O. (Young) Smith. Steve grew up and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1961, and McFarland Trade School in 1965. Steve was a Project Superintendent in the Construction Industry working throughout the United States and the World, retiring in 2003 after 40 years of service. In 1999 he married Ita Varisda of Jakarta, Indonesia at Miami, Oklahoma. Following his retirement they returned to their home in Coffeyville. Steve was a member of Pipefitters Local #441, and enjoyed Nascar races, automobiles, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Ita of the home; two sons, Grady Smith of Coffeyville, and Michael Smith of Tulsa, OK; one daughter, Stephanie McCarty of Edmond, OK; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Jack Smith. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Restlawn Memorial Park with Chaplain Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W.
