Hazel L. Nevius, 94, of Coffeyville passed away Friday, November 4, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born November 25, 1916 at Cardington, Ohio to Charles W. "Charley" and Mable C. (Baird) Smith. She spent her early years in Cardington, moving to Bartlett, KS with her family when she was about five years old where she grew up and completed her education.
On November 9, 1952 she married Ellsworth H. Nevius at Huntsville, Arkansas. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. When Hazel was younger she became a licensed beautician operating her own shop in Bartlett and later in Coffeyville. She also worked at J.C. Penney's, for R.M Seaton at the Coffeyville Journal and sold Avon for over 45 years. Her husband preceded her in death on August 13, 1991.
She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, and a lifetime PTA member. Hazel enjoyed working in her flower garden and with her house plants, cooking and loved being a housewife and mother involving herself with the activities of her children as they were growing up.
Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Nevius and Robert E. Nevius both of Coffeyville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister Wauneta Hawks.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
