Mary Frances "Sis" Burtrum, 98, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born January 4, 1913 at Nevada, Missouri to Charles F. and Emma M. (Loving) Garrett. Frances spent her early years in the Nevada area, following her mother's death when she was seven years old they moved to the Welch, Oklahoma area where she grew up and attended school. During her younger years she helped her father care for her younger brothers and sisters.
On January 19, 1933 she married James Harold Burtrum at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they moved to Coffeyville where they made their home and raised their family. Her husband preceded her in death in 1994.
She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Coffeyville, the SEK CB Club, and the SEK Old Car Club. Frances enjoyed craft making, attending craft shows, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Daisy Leona Davis of Grove, OK, and Phyllis J. Scott of Coffeyville; seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Vera Nadine Hobbs in 1994, one granddaughter, one grandson, three brothers and two sisters.
Graveside Services will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville, with Rev. Jimmy Harrington of Ridin' for the Brand Cowboy Church officiating.
The family suggests memorials to Ridin' for the Brand Cowboy Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
