Eunice Lorene Thornton, 78, of Coffeyville passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born October 8, 1933 in Wilson County, Kansas to Clarence and Ethel (Hasty) Klauman. She grew up in the Thayer, KS area where she attended school.
On March 7, 1952 she married Richard Thornton at Eureka Springs, AR. Following their marriage they made their home in Thayer for a short time before moving to Coffeyville. Her husband preceded her in death in 1976.
Mrs. Thornton worked at Old Park Tackle Shop and later at U.S.D. #445 Food Center.
She was a member of Grace Fellowship, the Singles Club and Senior Citizens Dance group. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she took care of three of her great-grandchildren until they started school.
Survivors include one daughter, Connie Thompson and husband Danny of Coffeyville; one sister, Lois Billbe and husband Dean of Chanute; one brother, Neal Klauman of California; three sister-in-laws, Betty Klauman of Wichita, Jackie Klauman of Chanute, and Geraldine Klauman of Florida, two granddaughters, Kari Thompson and Chuck King of Phoenix, AZ, and Jamie DeAnda and husband Jose of Coffeyville; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew, MacKenzie and Alex DeAnda of Coffeyville, and Emili King of Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers, Wayne, Elvin, and Bob Klauman.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Grace Fellowship in Coffeyville with Rev. Doug Mund officiating. Burial will be in the Harrison Cemetery west of Thayer, KS.
Friends may call on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
