Mary Morine "Sally" Potter, 88, of Coffeyville passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 13, 1923 at Remlap, Alabama to John Henry and Maude BeDell (Holloway) McGowan. She grew up and attended school in Remlap.
On March 3, 1944 she married Franklin Leon Potter at Norfolk, VA. They moved to Coffeyville in 1965. After moving to Coffeyville, Morine worked at H.W. Read's Clothing Store for many years. She later was co-owner with her son David of Something Special in Independence.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Hollyfield and husband Terry of Coffeyville, and Carolyn Yvonne Salano and husband Danny of Rapid City, SD; two sons, David Leon Potter of Rapid City, SD, and Derrick Potter and wife Donna of Greenbrier, AR; five sisters, Joy Little of CA, Gail Miller of FL, Linda Gail Ragsdale of Remlap, AL, Melba Gean Richards of Oneonto, AL, and Cathy Boring of Tupelo, MS; two brothers, Dordan McGowan of FL, and Dennis McGowan of Remlap, AL; one special niece, Rita Dunning of Norfolk, VA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Deborah Potter in 2007, one great-granddaughter, Blake Bertie of Independence in 2007, and thirteen brothers and sisters including her twin brother, Morris McGowan.
Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be Friday at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Lee's Chapel Methodist Cemetery on Pine Mountain near Remlap, AL.
Friends may sign the register book on Thursday from 9:00 .m. to 6:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the Blake Bertie Foundation established at First Federal Savings and Loan in Independence, or the American Cancer Society; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
