Virgil Richmond "Bud" Colwell, Jr., 72, of rural Edna, KS, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at his home.
He was born August 23, 1941, at Drumright, OK, to William Virgil and Clara Adeena (Knoblock) Colwell. Bud grew up and attended school in Labette County, near Oswego, KS, and completed his education at Labette County High School in Altamont.
Bud was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army from February 11, 1964 to February 12, 1966.
On August 25 1967, he married Virginia Renee (Richesin) Wright at Iola, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in the Iola area, where Bud worked at various jobs before working in Quality Control and Wolf Creek Generating Station at Burlington, KS. His wife preceded him in death on August 4, 1982. In 1993 he moved to rural Edna to be closer to his family.
Bud was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. He enjoyed reading, and collecting various items, and loved spending time with his family and his dog Reddy.
Survivors include two sisters, Helen Johnson and husband Earl of rural Edna, and Donna Pritchett of Nowata, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Graceland Cemetery in Burlington, KS with Dan Heidleburg presiding.
Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to Mercy Hospice or the Coffeyville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
