Obituary of Elsie M. Batson

Sedan - Elsie M. Batson, 89, of Sedan, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. She was born December 12, 1921in Webster County, Missouri, to John and Gertie (Welch) Cruise. She attended and graduated from Northview High School in Northview, Missouri. On November 20, 1940 she married Dale Batson. She later got her certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and also was a beautician for a number of years. She was born and raised in Missouri and came to Sedan in the early 1980's where she worked at Pleasant Valley Manor. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Sedan, Kansas. She was known as the "knitting lady" and also loved her garden, flowers, and her neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale E. Batson, and son Rance D. Batson, one grandson Joseph S. Thomas and one great grandson John D. Thomas parents and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Judi and husband Joe Thomas of Sedan, Kansas and Cheryl J. and husband Timothy L. Penn of Sedan, Kansas; one daughter-in-law Dollie Batson of Springfield, Missouri; one grand-daughter-in-law Patrice D. Thomas; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Sedan with Tom Barton of the Church of Christ in Caney officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Welch Cemetery near Strafford, Missouri.
