Michael Christopher "Mike" Adamson, 54, of Coffeyville, died Wednesday (August 24, 2011) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 12, 1957 at Coffeyville to Robert "Bob" and Marilyn (McGrath) Adamson. Mike grew up in Coffeyville, attending Holy Name Catholic School and graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School.
On September 24, 1983 he married Sharon K. Nodine in Coffeyville. Following their marriage they made their home in Coffeyville. Mike inherited a second home when he became a Firefighter with the Coffeyville Fire Department. Brave, heroic, and courageous are a few words that describe Mike both as a firefighter and as a cancer fighter.
Mike was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. In his spare time Mike enjoyed woodworking, 4-wheeling, fishing, storytelling, and loved spending time with his family and brother firefighters.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon of the home; one son, Tony Adamson of Coffeyville; two daughters, Nichole Grant and husband Dawson of Overland Park, KS, and Taylor Adamson of the home; his father Robert "Bob" Adamson of Coffeyville; four brothers, Bob Adamson and wife Jamie of Oklahoma City, OK; Dan Adamson and wife Dana of Helena, MT, Richard Adamson and wife Natalie of Coffeyville, and Charlie Adamson and wife Robin of Coffeyville; four sisters, Sharon Huelsman and husband Greg of Overland Park, KS, Mary Clough and husband Jon of Coffeyville. Pam Adamson of Oklahoma City, OK, and Cindy Murdock and husband Derek of Coffeyville; and one granddaughter, Marlow Scott- Adamson.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Adamson on June 5, 2007.
A Rosary Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Coffeyville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2011 at Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ben Nguyen officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Coffeyville. Mike will have a full firefighters funeral with honor guard.
Friends may call on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Taylor Adamson Scholarship Fund established at Community State Bank in Coffeyville; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
