Sedan - Harold Gene Evans, age 81, of rural Wauneta, Kansas passed away, Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at his home.
He was born July 29, 1930 in Grenola, Kansas to Earl and Bernice (Yates) Evans. He was raised in Chautauqua County and graduated from Sedan High School in the class of 1948.
On December 31, 1948 he married Patsy Mattocks. They made their home in rural Chautauqua County where Gene worked as a mechanic for numerous years and also worked as a reserve for the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies. His wife of sixty two years survives him.
He was a member of the Wauneta United Methodist Church. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and especially loved his motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Patsy of the home; one son; Jerry and wife Janice Mattocks of St. John, Kansas; one sister, Barbara Allen of Elgin, Kansas; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Friday, August 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Round Mound Cemetery in rural Wauneta with Reverend Jerry Bever of the Wauneta United Methodist Church officiating.
The family has suggested memorials to the Wauneta United Methodist Church and those remembrances can be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
