Charles William Scott, Sr., 89, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 14, 1924 at Caney, KS to Wiley Roseland and Ethel Pearl (Shafer) Scott. Mr. Scott grew up and attended school in Caney graduating from Caney High School.
On March 14, 1944 he married Elizabeth Marie Seals at Nowata, OK. Following their marriage they made their home on the family farm near Caney. In 1954 they moved to Coffeyville, where Charles was a longtime City of Coffeyville employee retiring after 27 years of service, at the time of his retirement in 1987 he was Assistant Superintendent of the Public Works Department.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in South Coffeyville, OK. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and gardening, but most of all loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Marie Scott of the home; one son, Charles Scott, Jr and wife Jackie of rural Coffeyville; one daughter, Patricia Elizabeth Walter of Coffeyville; two brothers, Homer Edward Scott of rural Caney; and John Stanley Scott of rural Copan, OK; and two grandchildren; Charles Scott, III, and Haylie Walter Bagwell and husband Shane.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wiley Ralph Scott; and one sister Lucille Bright.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February, 28, 2014 at Grace Fellowship in Coffeyville with Pastor J.B. Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the University of Kansas Medical School; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
