Delma Smith, 76, of Dearing, passed away Tuesday, August 02, 2011, at her home.
She was born December 9, 1934 at Coffeyville to Gail and Florence (Millier) Lucas. Delma grew up and attended school in Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kindley High School.
In May 1952 she married Joseph Lee Smith at the Dearing Christian Church. Following their marriage they made their home in Dearing. In 1953 they became owners of Lucas and Smith Grocery in Dearing, operating the store until 1968, when her husband became Postmaster at the Dearing Post Office. Her husband preceded her in death on April 13, 2011.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Caney, and Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include daughter, Terri Bishop of Dearing; son Marty Smith of Dearing; daughter, LeAnna Fowler of Elk City; and son Gail Smith of rural Coffeyville; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, and two granddaughters.
Following Delma's wishes cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service Celebrating her life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the First Christian Church in Caney with Pastor Brad Sanders officiating. Inurnment will be Saturday afternoon in Jefferson Cemetery northwest of Dearing.
Friends may sign the register book on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Caney First Christian Church, or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
