Obituary of Bill D. Farris

Sedan - Bill Dwayne Farris, age 83, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Sedan City Hospital. He was born June 15, 1928 in Sedan, Kansas, the son of Leo Leonard Farris and Ethel Belle (Vanderhoof) Farris. He graduated from Sedan High School; attended Kansas State University and Coffeyville Community College. He served in the United States Army in March of 1951 for three years. He married Dolores June Montgomery on November 21, 1956 at Independence, Kansas and she survives at the home. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Sedan, Kansas where Mr. Farris worked for Sinclair Oil for eighteen years. In 1967 he went to work at the First National Bank of Sedan. He was Cashier and Agriculture Representative and served on the Board of Directors until his retirement in 1998. Over the years he did some farming, raised cattle and took care of oil leases. He was a member of the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Sedan. He served on the church vestry. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Sedan VFW and former member of the Sedan Country Club. He served as President of the Sedan Chamber of Commerce, President of the Sedan Booster Club, coached summer baseball and was involved in many community activities. He is survived by his wife Dolores "Dee" Farris of the home; one son David L. Farris and wife Paula of Leawood, Kansas; one daughter, Kimberly A. Baughman and husband Chad of Altamont, Kansas; one brother, Harold Farris of Marion, Kansas; six grandchildren, Logan, Lakyn, DeLaney, and Alexis Baughman, and Brent and Brooklyn Farris. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Sedan with Father Marcus Cunningham officiating. A Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place and family and friends may sign the register on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. The family has suggested memorials to the Epiphany Episcopal Church and the Sedan City Hospital and may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
