Carol Jean Palmer, 82, of rural Coffeyville, passed away Tuesday morning (February 5, 2008) at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
She was born October 24, 1925 at Miami, Oklahoma to William Holland and Grace A. (Lee) Gordon. She grew up in Miami where she attended school and graduated from Miami High School. Following high school she attended the Franklin Technical School for Nursing in Joplin.
On June 30, 1945 she married Walter Joe Palmer at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Carterville, Missouri and Joplin, Missouri until moving to a farm house west of Coffeyville in 1951. They later moved to a farm house east of Coffeyville where they lived until moving to their farm in 1964. Joe preceded her in death in April 2004.
Mrs. Palmer was employed as an inspector at H.D. Lee Co. and as a seamstress at Jolly Kids both in Cherryvale.
Carol was a member of the First Assembly of God in Coffeyville, the Angola H.D.U. and Clymore Clippers sewing group.
Survivor include five sons, Joe (Louise) Palmer of Coffeyville, Gene (Norma) Palmer of Mound Valley, Roger (Donna) Palmer of Edna, Jerry (Linda) Palmer of Carthage, MO, and Tim Palmer of Delaware, OK; one daughter, Alice (Jim) Kirkland of Edna; one brother, Allen Gordon of Truth or Consequences, NM; two sisters, two sisters, Bonnie Vaughn of Antlers, OK, and Clara Clark of Pittsburg, KS; two sister-in-laws, Betty Arnce of Joplin, MI, and Twanda Palmer of Anchorage, AL; sixteen grandchildren, Steven Palmer, Bradley Palmer, Norma Jean (Kevin) Shire, Dale (Jennifer) Palmer, Robert (Candy) Palmer, Angie (Brian) Whicker, Jimmie (Erin) Kirkland, Janie (T.J.) Conley, Jennie Palmer, Marty (Amy) Palmer, Andy (Melissa) Palmer, Tara Palmer, Justin Palmer, Tess Parker, Drew Parker, and Josh (Kelly) Pippin; and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son Gary Palmer in 1980.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday (February 8, 2008) at the First Assembly of God in Coffeyville with Rev. Billy Jones officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park in Coffeyville.
Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
