Francis H. "Frank" Peterman, 87, of Independence, KS, passed away Friday, June 13, 2014, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
He was born on December 23, 1926, at Camden, NJ to Francis M. and Blanche Emily (Hunter) Peterman. Frank grew up and attended school in New Jersey where he graduated from high school. He later attended and graduated from Pierce Junior College in Philadelphia, PA.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.
On November 6, 1948 he married Gertrude M. "Trudy" Lees at Philadelphia, PA. Following their marriage they their home in Reading, PA until moving to Independence in 1974, where Frank was employed by Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) until retiring in 1985. Following his retirement they continued to make their home in Independence. His wife Trudy preceded him in death on December 6, 2010.
Frank was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Independence, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed working with Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels, and was active in a Care Givers support group at Mercy Hospital; Frank was an active care giver for his mother, and later his wife when their health declined. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, doing home improvements and yard work, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy L. Koplan of Wallingford, CT, and Linda Wolensky of Escondido, CA; one son, Frank A. Peterman of Coffeyville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and his wife.
Following Frank's wishes cremation has taken place, a memorial service and inurnment celebrating his life will be at a later date in New Jersey.
The family suggests memorials to St. Andrew Catholic Church in Independence; contributions may be left with the Church or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
