Edith Geraldine "Gerry" Wilson, 86, of rural Elk City, formerly of rural Coffeyville, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011 at her home.
She was born September 11, 1924 at rural Longton, KS to Roy Benjamin and Sara Edith (Ford) Carpenter. Gerry grew up in the Sedan area where she attended school, graduating from Sedan High School in 1946.
On May 25, 1946 she married Robert James Wilson at Madison, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in Emporia for a short time before moving to rural Coffeyville where they made their home for over 46 years. Following her husband's death on January 3, 2003 she moved to the Oak Valley area near Elk City to make her home with her daughter and son-in-law.
Gerry was a longtime member of the Dearing Christian Church where she served as Mission's secretary, youth group sponsor and taught VBS. She was a housewife, enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing and spending time with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Ross and her husband Eugene of rural Elk City; two sisters, Dorothy Garrett of Mustang, OK, and Maxine Brim of Elgin, KS; and two brothers, Harold Carpenter and wife Naida of Sedan, and Jack Carpenter and wife Kay of Peru.
Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan with Earl Tresner officiating.
Friends may call on Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.
The family suggests memorials to Special Olympics or American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 North Douglas, Sedan, KS 67337.
